Introductions

Carol hides behind her massive camera lens
Allow me to introduce myself. If you're a member (and of course you should be!) I know you've gotten email notification of my appointment as Library Director, effective January 1, 2019, and probably seen my "official" biography. Here's my less formal bio:

Carol Ansel lives in Mystic, Connecticut. She has spent her career in southeastern Connecticut libraries, starting at the Mystic & Noank Library, followed by two stints at local independent schools--Pine Point School in Stonington, and the Williams School in New London. After her father passed away, she became the "Family Archivist" by default. Interested in finding out more about the family papers, she found herself totally sucked in to the "Black Hole of Ancestry." The reference librarian in her just couldn't quit. After a few years working on her tree she decided to sign up for Boston University's Genealogical Certificate Program, which she finished in August of 2018. The job as Reference Librarian, and later, Library Director at Godfrey helped her realize her official career shift, though her goal remains the same: connect people with the resources they need. Her husband Walter is a shipwright at Mystic Seaport Museum, currently overseeing the restoration of the Mayflower II. They have two grown children, one grand-cat, and their own cat--who will never grow up.
